About the Games
The 2008 BC Winter Games, co-hosted by the cities of Kimberley and Cranbrook, will see almost 3,000 athletes, coaches and officials descend on the East Kootenay from February 21st to 24th, 2008. The games and their participants will bring with them a positive economic and social impact as well as an enduring legacy for years to come.
Previous winter and summer games have contributed anywhere from $1 million to $3 million to the local economies of the host communities. In addition, they have provided these communities with an opportunity to showcase themselves to the rest of the province
The mission statement of the Kimberley/Cranbrook BC Winter Games reflects those benefits, according to president Rob McIntyre, "The organizing committee of the 2008 BC Winter Games will create an atmosphere emphasizing athletes, volunteers and the spirit of the Games, as well as showcasing the unique communities of Kimberley and Cranbrook. It is our intention to provide athletes with the best environment in which to achieve excellence while enjoying competition, sportsmanship, friendship and fun."
Games Philosophy:
